Launch of the Tampines Central Youth Recycling Ambassadors

8a.m was the time we met at Blk 842 Tampines (Sheltered Basketball Court). There were still quite a few preparations and briefing to do, though most of it was done yesterday by some of our members. For us, it was an important event and we wanted to make sure that everything goes as planned because there will be a minister gracing this event.

After setting up the booth for display, we were briefed of the flow of events. Jobs and duties were delegated as well. Some of us were assigned to station at different places, such as the booth and the games corner. I was assigned to pass one of the ‘puzzle pieces’ to Mr Masagos, one of our Guest of Honours.

While the prizes were being given out to the winners of several competitions that were organized, most of our members were getting ready as the GOHs will be walking past our booth after the ceremony. We were all very excited.

Our booth mainly displayed some items made of recycled materials and also some information about ECO. I felt that the items were very artistic and creative.

I would say it was a really fun and unique experience. It’s not like you get to walk or shake hands with MPs and a minister everyday. We had lots of fun at the game stores and ‘Children’s Drawing Corner’ with the children that were there. We took a lot of pictures with them as well. Not forgetting we also surprised Xiaoran with a birthday cake! =D

I just want to say that Youth ConnectionX (YCX) is very honoured to have been chosen to be Tampines Central Youth Recycling Ambassadors. The launch graced by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for The Environment and Water Resources with the 4 MPs of Tampines as Mr. Mah Bow Tan wasn’t around. It was a very successful event in the eyes of many.

YCX Chalet!

It was our very first outing and bonding session as a club and I was really looking forward to it. Haha…it was at Pasir Ris PA chalet.

I would say the entire 4 days were just fun!!! Haha… on the very first night, we had a BBQ. It was mainly to celebrate April’s (our Chairperson of YCX) and Hui Yan’s birthdays. Many friends and family were invited, not just YCX members. There were a lot of food like chicken wings, bee hoon, fried rice, etc..

The birthday bash was really enjoyable. April and Hui Yan were sabotaged and ended up covered in flour, water and cake. Haha…it’s the normal culture of all birthday bashes I would say. =)) But we all had fun, took a lot of pictures and played a couple of games.

Over the next few days, we spend most of the days playing games like card games, even Mahjong. Don’t worry, we didn’t gamble! Haha…we just played for fun. Many sleepless nights we had playing mahjong, but they were fun and memorable. We also watched a couple of VCDs together. Though most of the people couldn’t make it for all 4 days, but at least they came when they were free. I dare to say that only me, April and Nigel really stayed in the chalet for all 4 days. Hehe…I’m proud of that!!

There was one night when we went to the beach. It was nice, cooling and peaceful. It is something that was really enjoyable. Just to walk along the beach with friends, enjoying the sea breeze and the sound of the waves. Haha.. I know I sound very drama but it’s true. Try it! We took many pictures too. And did I mention, there was one photo that we took of the moon. The moon was actually a shape of a heart shape! HOW UNIQUE!! Some of us woke up early in the morning and went cycling around Pasir Ris Park. It was peaceful as there weren’t many people there at that time.

Overall, I think it was a great outing we had. We managed to bond the members (not all but most) and also had loads of fun!! Whee~ee!! :))

Humanitas 2006

Humanitas Bazaar 2006 is our very first event. All of us had pin a lot of hopes on this event as it would be our first stepping stone. It was held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Tampines Central CC.

On the day of the event itself, we were all there early to set up the food and game stores. We were having sort of a food fair, sold food of different cultures. Such as malay food, Chinese food, etc…

Humanitas is actually a Latin word for culture. That is why we sold different cultural food to allow people of other races to have a taste of other cultural food. To do so, we made sure that all the food was Halal.

Game stores were also set up to cater to the youths and children that came to the event. The highlight of most of the board games was that, some of our members took pains to make them. We wanted to have board games that were unique and new so that the youths would be attracted to play them.

We also lined up a list of performances to entertain the public and the youths that were present. Performances such as Wushu, TPJC Guitar Ensemble and performance by a youth rock band.

Through this event, I believe that we, as a club, have learnt a lot of things and ways to improve on our management.

Youth ConnectionX (YCX) is a club which i've started on 04 August 2006. We started off with only 4 members. But now, our current strength is more than 35 members! It might not seem a lot. But to me, it's amazing. It's amazing how special the friends around me are to me, that they are willing to fork out time to do this with me. They are not obligated to do it, but they still stood by me and the club and together we'll achieve the vision i've set for the club: "To be the leading youth body providing experiences to enrich people's lives through personal development and community involvement." Without all these people, i wouldn't have come this far with YCX. Because of their love and encouragement, time and again i am motivated by them to move on to bring the club to a higher level.

To All members of YCX:
Really thank u all for being there for me! thank you for all the time u've volunteered in YCX! thank u for all the memories we've created together! thank u for understanding me n giving me the due respect whenever necessary... really thank u tat all of us could draw a clear line between work n fun! Let's all work together towards our vision! =D=D

Graced by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tampines GRC and Advisor to Tampines Central GRO, who is none other than Mr. Sin Boon Ann, Youth ConnectionX successfully launched its first ever public event "Humanitas 2006" (which is a Latin word for culture) on 30 Dec 2006.

The event included various family bonding activities, board games, live performance and even food and which helped raised funds for a charitable organisation. The Wushu performance, rock band concert and the Guitar Ensemble performed by TPJC and SACSS students provided quality entertainment for families and children to get together, bond and enjoy as one.

All in all, the smiles and laughter signified a job well done to the Youth ConnectionX (YCX) members! =D
